Tiananmen Square Guided Tour
Located in the centre of Beijing, Tiananmen is the largest city square in the world with an area of 440 thousand square metres. Besides of its cultural significance it was also the site of several key events in the Chinese history. One of the recent and probably the most important events was in 1989 when the government troops stopped pro-democracy protesters there. The square lies between two ancient, massive gates: the Tiananmen to the north and the Zhengyangmen, better known as Qianmen to the south. Along the west side of the Square is the Great Hall of the People. Along the east side is the National Museum of China (dedicated to Chinese history predating 1919).
