Autumn’s on the way out, the nights are drawing in and the temperatures are getting
colder. Our thoughts are firmly on the festive season and we take great joy in wishing you a
very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. And what better
distraction can there be from the onset of winter than to book a holiday? We offer a
range of destinations and activities
throughout Russia, so whatever your interests, there’s a trip that’s just right for you.
Russia’s top cities look incredible under a carpet of snow. Stroll alongside St Petersburg’s
canals, passing historic mansions and elegant palaces. Visit the Hermitage to admire its
world-class art, or take a trip out to Peterhof to see Peter the Great’s very successful
attempt to bring the Palace of Versailles to his homeland. Moscow is also at its best this
time of year. Stand in front of the iconic onion domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, tour the
Kremlin, see where Lenin’s embalmed body finished up and shop in GUM, the country’s
most famous department store. We’re now including the
Marriott Courtyard
hotel in all our 4* packages to Moscow, conveniently located just five minutes’ walk from the Kremlin.
Getting out into the Russian countryside is thrilling during the winter, with plenty of ways to
have some fun. You might even encounter some reindeer! Make the most of the snow with a ride on a
snowmobile safari to Kizhi
Island, an open air museum known for its eclectic, UNESCO-listed ensemble of wooden buildings. Perhaps instead, you’d
prefer to journey along the frozen lakes and icy ground of the taiga in a
dog sled?
Mushing isn’t as hard as it looks and with a bit of instruction, you’ll be sliding along in no time. Complete your winter
adventure as you come in from the cold and warm up in a banya. The steam and heat of
these traditional Russian saunas makes this a memorable experience for travellers.
As we wrap up 2019, our thoughts focus on the year ahead. 2020 looks set to be an exciting year for us.
St Petersburg’s new e-visa
scheme makes life a lot more straightforward for
qualifying passport holders. If your nationality isn’t eligible for the scheme, remember you can always book a shorter
72 hour trip to St Petersburg
by ferry or cruise ship with no need for a visa at all. If you’re planning a big trip, then a
Trans Siberian
rail adventure might be just the ticket, or perhaps one of our fantastic
adventure holidays
such as our cross country skiing packages in the far north of the country? For something completely different, why not
talk to us about a river cruise. See the Volga from your comfortable cabin on the 5* Mustai Karim, or
follow the Yenisei River
to explore off the beaten track Russia.
And finally, despite what our name might imply, we don’t just go to Russia! With an ever-
expanding range of trips to the beautiful
Caucasus region,
you could be exploring Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in the company of our knowledgeable, friendly guides. Tourism in
these countries is only just taking off, so why not be a trailblazer and explore them ahead of
the crowd? Breathtaking scenery, a long history, excellent food and a typically warm
Caucasus welcome make this a trip you won’t want to miss. Keep your eyes peeled for our
announcement on our latest venture. We’re still working on some captivating Turkey
itineraries, but when they’re ready we’ll make sure you’ll be the first to know about it.
